Your role with us
Salem Health is seeking an experienced full-time Physician Associate (PA-C) to join our highly functioning and collaborative cardiothoracic (CT) surgery team. Foundationally we operate with two experience heart surgeons, a dedicated thoracis surgeon and three skilled cardiac Physician Associates, performing over 200 heart procedures and 175 general thoracic cases annually. Our facility boasts cutting-edge operating rooms and Cath lab, ensuring the highest quality of care.
PA – CT Surgery Clinic
The CT Surgery Physician Associate is involved in all aspects of patient care, including assisting in the operating room, conducting inpatient rounds, and working in the clinic. A full-time Physician Associate is contracted for 184 ten-hour shifts per year and participates in a 1:4 call schedule (not in-house), with opportunities to take on additional call for a bonus stipend.
Our patients receive comprehensive medical services through the Salem Health Medical Group, which includes more than 330 providers across over 20 specialties. The group is dedicated to enhancing the patient experience and delivering high levels of coordinated care.
Salem’s geographic location allows it to serve a diverse catchment area, including both metropolitan and rural communities. The region also offers a wide range of outdoor and active lifestyle opportunities unique to the Pacific Northwest.
What you'll do
- Assist cardiothoracic surgeons in the operating room by serving as first assist during cardiac and thoracic procedures, ensuring safe, efficient surgical care alongside the surgical team.
- Conduct daily inpatient rounds to evaluate post-operative patients, manage treatment plans, and coordinate care with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff in the hospital setting.
- Provide pre- and post-operative care in the clinic by assessing patients, ordering and interpreting tests, and guiding recovery to improve outcomes and patient experience.
- Participate in a shared 1:4 call schedule (not in-house) to support urgent patient needs, collaborating with surgeons and care teams to deliver timely clinical decisions.
- Perform procedures within scope such as line placement, wound care, and chest tube management, to support patient recovery and continuity of care.
Required qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Associate program.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least two years of experience as a surgical Physician Associate required.
- Pass the Physician Associate National Certifying Examination (PANCE) and be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Associate
(NCCPA). NCCPA Certification must be maintained. - Current PA license in good standing with the Oregon Medical Board.
