Your role with us
As a Breast Care Center Physician Associate at Salem Health, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive care to patients in both the outpatient clinic and hospital settings. Working under the direction of a supervising physician, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary health care team to deliver high-quality care, ensuring that each patient receives personalized, expert attention. In this role, you will manage a diverse range of cases, from initial consultations and diagnostic workups to post-procedure follow-ups. Your contributions will include hands-on patient care, patient education and participation in clinical research. This position offers a fulfilling blend of independent patient management and teamwork, allowing you to make a significant impact on the lives of patients navigating breast care and oncology services.
Breast Care Center
We serve and care for more than 400 patients each year, from diagnosis to survivorship. The Breast Care Center is a dedicated space that includes large exam rooms and two procedure rooms to continue to provide high quality, multidisciplinary care from the team which includes a breast surgeon, physician associates, and medical support.
What you’ll do
- Manage patient care across inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth settings, including histories, physical exams, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up.
- Lead patient education efforts, ensuring understanding of diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and potential side effects.
- Order, interpret, and communicate results of diagnostic tests; prescribe and monitor medications, including controlled substances, in alignment with privileges.
- Perform and assist with medical procedures and surgeries as appropriate to role and privileges.
- Collaborate with physicians, hospital staff, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated, high-quality, and continuous care.
- Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation and ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and quality standards.
- Support clinical research, data collection, and quality improvement initiatives as directed by leadership.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork, and communication skills while fostering a positive, professional, and flexible work environment.
Required experience
- Graduation from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Associate (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, e.g., CAHEA, CAAHEP.
- Successful completion of the Physician Associate National Certifying Examination (PANCE)
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Associates (NCCPA).
- Current PA license in good standing issued by the Oregon Medical Board (OMB).
- Maintenance of American Heart Association ACLS certification.
Additional experience
- One (1) year of experience as a surgical PA preferred.
- Experience in an oncology practice preferred.
- Experience in breast care practice preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean methodology preferred.
