Full Time
Job ID: #15604
Location: Salem Hospital, 890 Oak Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97301
Department: Diagnostic Imaging
Position Type: Full time, 40 hours/week, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, variable scheduled days
Your role with us
As an ultrasound technologist at Salem Health Hospital and Clinics, you will play a key role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging to support exceptional patient care across a diverse population—from pediatrics through geriatrics. In this role, your work directly supports clinical decision-making while creating a compassionate and reassuring experience for every patient you serve.
You’ll be part of a collaborative and team-based imaging department. At Salem Hospital, all sonographers have been registered through the field's gold-standard licensing body — the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), and collectively hold more than 50 specialty credentials. Our ultrasound team partners closely with radiologists, physicians, unit clerks, and patient transport to ensure each exam runs smoothly and efficiently. On a typical shift, you can expect a steady but manageable workflow, allowing you to focus on both quality and patient-centered care.
Our team is made up of technologists at all stages of their careers—from new graduates to highly experienced professionals—creating an environment where mentorship, learning, and knowledge-sharing are part of the daily culture. We’re looking for a compassionate, dependable team player who follows direction well and is eager to contribute to a high-functioning, supportive team.
This role offers strong professional growth opportunities. You’ll have the chance to expand your skill set into specialized exams such as MFM/OB and pursue additional credentials and registry letters. Salem Health also supports career advancement into roles such as charge tech, lead, supervisor, and beyond. As a magnet-designated organization with a strong commitment to continuous improvement, you’ll have opportunities to participate in initiatives like APEX and LEAN award–driven projects that elevate both patient care and staff experience.
At Salem Health, you’ll find a workplace where clinical excellence, teamwork, and professional growth are all valued—empowering you to build a meaningful, long-term career in ultrasound.
What you'll do
- Perform a variety of ultrasound exams, including general (abdomen, pelvic, OB), small parts, carotid, breast, and venous studies.
- Assist radiologists with invasive procedures, ensuring proper use of supplies, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Tailor imaging techniques to meet the needs of pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients while maintaining exam quality.
- Analyze images for completeness, gather additional views as needed, and provide thorough documentation with proper patient identification and annotation.
- Correlate sonographic findings with clinical history and prior imaging to assist in diagnosis.
- Maintain, adjust, and clean ultrasound equipment; promptly report any issues to your supervisor.
- Utilize PACS, RIS, and HIS systems to manage orders, track patient information, and ensure accurate billing.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare providers, protecting patient privacy at all times.
- Support departmental operations by keeping work areas organized, assisting colleagues, and training others as required.
Required qualifications
