Your role with us
As a certified surgical technologist at Salem Health, you'll play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality surgical care. Working alongside surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other surgical team members, you'll prepare the operating room, maintain a sterile environment, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and support patients throughout their surgical experience. Your expertise in sterile technique, teamwork, and patient safety helps ensure every procedure is performed efficiently and with the highest standard of care. What you'll do
- Prepare operating rooms and establish sterile fields by organizing instruments, equipment, and supplies while maintaining strict aseptic and sterile technique for a variety of surgical procedures.
- Support surgeons and the surgical team during procedures by anticipating needs, passing instruments and supplies, preparing and monitoring medications on the sterile field, managing specimens, and assisting with dressings to promote safe, efficient patient care.
- Promote patient safety by participating in hand hygiene, patient verification, surgical time-outs, medication labeling, and post-procedure debriefs while ensuring surgical equipment is functioning properly.
- Prepare instruments for transport to Sterile Processing by removing gross contamination and applying appropriate wetting techniques to support instrument reprocessing.
- Maintain an efficient surgical environment by restocking supplies, assisting with room turnover, updating surgeon preference cards, ordering approved floor stock medications, and utilizing downtime to support unit operations.
Required qualifications
- Vocational/Technical – Completion of a surgical technology educational program accredited by a national accreditation organization that is approved by the Oregon Health Authority.
- Basic Life Support.
- Cert Surgical Technologist – Cert Surgical Technologist – Holds a current surgical technologist certification issued through one of the following organizations: National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
