Your role with us
The vascular surgery clinic at Salem Health provides specialized care for patients with conditions affecting the arteries, veins and lymphatic system, offering both medical management and surgical support. Patients may be seen for peripheral artery disease, aneurysm monitoring, varicose veins, wound care and vascular access needs, along with a wide range of diagnostic evaluations.
Common procedures include vascular ultrasounds, wound assessments and pre and post operative care. In this setting, the medical assistant plays a crucial role in workflow coordination and timely communication with providers to ensure safe and efficient care.
As a medical assistant, you will be essential in preparing patients for visits, assisting with procedures, performing point of care testing and maintaining accurate documentation. You will also guide patients through discharge instructions, future care planning and access to community resources. Your role is vital in supporting steady patient flow and the delivery of high-quality vascular care to the patients in our community.
What you'll do
- Obtain patient history, record vital signs on admission, and assist to reassess clinical status after therapeutic interventions.
- Alert providers of urgent or life-threatening situations in a timely manner. Prioritize care needs and intervene in situations outside routine clinic protocol to ensure safe and timely escalation.
- Coordinate and document physician orders while anticipating and initiating indicated diagnostic testing based on established protocols.
- Monitor patient flow and adjust work efforts to maintain continuity of care and efficient departmental operations.
- Provide thorough discharge instructions, involve family when appropriate, and ensure referrals and community resources are offered.
- Perform waived laboratory tests according to protocol while maintaining competency in testing procedures and quality standards.
- Handle medications responsibly by following established safety practices and administering within scope and clinic guidelines.
- Demonstrate competency across all clinical care responsibilities required in the clinic setting.
- Document visits, calls, refill requests, and related encounters accurately in Epic Ambulatory and assign facility charges correctly.
- May float to other clinics within Salem Health as need arises.
Required qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant – Medical Assistant Certification, such as or equivalent to: CCMA (AAMA), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), RMA (AMT), RMA (AAH), CMAC (AMCA), or NRCMA (NAHP).
Additional information
- Basic Life Support – within 30 days of hire.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a vascular surgery setting.
- The ideal candidate will be teachable, driven and adaptable.
- Successful candidates will have strong communication and interpersonal skills to support effective, courteous, caring and professional interactions with patients and coworkers through all forms of communication.
