As a GYN Oncology Physician Associate at Salem Health, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive care to patients in both the outpatient clinic and hospital settings. Working under the direction of a supervising physician, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary health care team to deliver high-quality care, ensuring that each patient receives personalized, expert attention. In this role, you will manage a diverse range of cases, from initial consultations and diagnostic workups to post-procedure follow-ups. Your contributions will include hands-on patient care, patient education and participation in clinical research. This position offers a fulfilling blend of independent patient management and teamwork, allowing you to make a significant impact on the lives of patients navigating breast care and oncology services.
GYN Oncology
The Salem Health GYN Oncology team provides highly collaborative, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment that supports complex surgical, inpatient, and outpatient needs. Providers work closely with surgeons, oncology staff, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless care coordination, compassionate patient education, and timely support throughout the cancer care continuum. The department values professionalism, flexibility, communication, and a culture of teamwork that prioritizes quality improvement, patient safety, and an exceptional patient and provider experience.
What you’ll do
- Conducts comprehensive pre-operative and postoperative evaluations, including histories, physical exams, documentation, and patient education.
- Functions as first or second assist in the operating room, including robotic GYN Oncology cases; coordinates and reviews all pre-operative studies.
- Manages inpatient care by rounding on GynOnc patients, assessing clinical status, documenting progress, ordering labs, imaging, and medications per protocol or physician order.
- Provides emergency department and inpatient consult support, assists with ICU and ward patient management, and performs procedures such as wound care, debridement, packing, and discharge summaries.
- Supports outpatient clinics by screening patients, performing pre- and postoperative assessments, assisting with procedures, conducting wound checks, and serving as liaison to clinic staff.
- Provides chemotherapy counseling, monitors treatment tolerance, and assists with research activities, including informed consent and data collection.
- Participates in departmental quality and LEAN improvement initiatives, contributes to clinical pathways and protocols, and attends relevant committees and medical staff meetings.
- Assists in patient flow, care coordination, resource management, and resolution of patient/provider concerns to support satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Performs all duties professionally, timely, and as assigned.
Required experience
- Graduation from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, e.g., CAHEA, CAAHEP.
- Two (2) year of experience as a surgical PA preferred.
- Experience in oncology practice preferred.
- Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE).
- Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current PA license in good standing issued by the Oregon Medical Board (OMB).
- Maintenance of American Heart Association ACLS certification.
- SA-C (Surgical Assistant – Certified) or obtain within one year of start date.
