Your role with us
As a certified medical assistant at Salem Health, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by performing clinical assessments, facilitating provider-directed care, and ensuring timely documentation and coordination. This position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative, fast-paced clinic environment while promoting safe, high-quality care and a positive patient experience.
What you'll do:
- Conduct patient intake by obtaining medical history, documenting vital signs, and assessing condition related to musculoskeletal concerns.
- Recognize changes in patient status or urgent orthopedic issues and promptly alert the provider.
- Support providers during exams and procedures; anticipate diagnostic needs such as X-rays, MRIs, or lab tests based on clinic protocols.
- Coordinate and document provider orders accurately, including injections, casting/splinting prep, and imaging referrals.
- Perform waived testing and maintain competency in orthopedic-specific clinical procedures and equipment use.
- Administer medications safely within scope and in accordance with orthopedic protocols.
- Ensure accurate documentation in Epic Ambulatory for all patient visits, refill requests, and provider communications.
- Assign facility charges appropriately for orthopedic services and procedures.
- Provide clear discharge instructions including post-op care, mobility support resources, and follow-up referrals.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain smooth patient flow and continuity of care throughout the clinic.
Required qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant – Medical Assistant Certification, such as or equivalent to: CCMA (AAMA), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), RMA (AMT), RMA (AAH), CMAC (AMCA), or NRCMA (NAHP).
- Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

- Candidates will also need the physical capability to lift, pull, and reposition patients and equipment, at least 50 pounds unassisted and over 100 pounds with assistance, to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
