Salem Health is seeking an Adult Hospitalist to join our Hospitalist team in a full time capacity. This position offers an opportunity to work within a collaborative, patient-centered environment that values teamwork, quality, and compassionate care.
As an Adult Hospitalist Physician at Salem Health, you’ll join a collaborative and highly skilled team of over 50 physicians and advanced practitioners dedicated to delivering exceptional inpatient care. In this role, you’ll manage a diverse caseload of adult patients, oversee the full spectrum of hospital medicine from admission to discharge, and partner closely with specialists, nurses, and care coordinators to achieve the best patient outcomes. Our hospitalists are integral to ensuring seamless patient transitions, improving hospital processes, and supporting our commitment to quality care day or night.
Adult Hospitalist
Our Adult Hospitalist program provides comprehensive inpatient care at our main campus in Salem, Oregon. Our multidisciplinary team manages a diverse patient population, collaborating closely with specialists, nursing, and support services to ensure coordinated and efficient care. Our Hospitalists collaborate with a top-notch Rapid Response Team as well as our experienced Emergency Room colleagues. We prioritize sustainable workloads, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement supported by Lean principles and a commitment to provider engagement.
What you'll do
- Accept and coordinate care for internal medicine patient referrals.
- Manage admissions, case management, and discharge planning.
- Provide medical consultations for surgical, subspecialties, and emergency department requests.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call coverage, ensuring timely responses to emergent and routine requests.
- Engage in hospital quality improvement activities and clinical effectiveness projects.
- Collaborate with clinical resource coordinators and discharge planners for effective patient care.
- Maintain excellent relationships with hospital staff and resolve patient and provider concerns.
- Ensure complete and accurate medical records in compliance with regulations.
- Adhere to Medical Staff Bylaws, hospital policies, and third-party payor requirements.
Required qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
- Board Certification or eligibility in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
- Experience with at least 60 hospital patients, including ED evaluations/admits, in the previous 2 years.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Oregon.
- Current DEA certification.
Additional information
- Our Hospitalists are not required to cover codes.
- No coverage for procedure or ventilator management.
- We maintain a closed ICU.
- Will consider new graduates.
- Knowledge of Lean methodology highly preferred.
