Your role with us
As a clinical nurse in Salem Health’s Emergency Department, you’ll be on the front lines of care at one of the busiest EDs on the West Coast, part of a Level II Trauma Center serving over 115,000 patients annually. This role demands quick critical thinking, strong clinical judgment and compassionate communication. You’ll assess, plan, intervene, and document care for patients across the lifespan while collaborating with a highly skilled, interdisciplinary team. Whether you’re stabilizing a trauma patient, educating a family, or leading a shift as charge nurse, your expertise and adaptability help ensure excellent outcomes in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment. What you'll do

Assess: Perform ongoing, age-appropriate assessments, taking into account medical history, social factors and learning needs.

Plan: Develop and update individualized care plans that reflect patient condition, potential barriers and family involvement.

Intervene: Deliver evidence-based care while prioritizing patient safety, comfort, and dignity; respond effectively in emergencies.

Document: Accurately chart assessments, care plans, interventions, education and outcomes in the electronic medical record.

Communicate: Use clear, concise SBAR communication with providers, patients and team members; anticipate and share updates proactively.

Lead: Take charge when needed—making assignments, directing support staff, managing flow and guiding clinical decision-making.

Promote Safety: Ensure a clean, hazard-free environment and follow infection control protocols; use restraints per policy when applicable.

Collaborate: Supervise and mentor CNAs, techs, students, and other support staff, while participating in shared governance and quality improvement.

Float & Flex: Support unit needs through flexibility, cross-training and collaboration with peers across service areas.
Background/experience
- Associates degree of nursing (ADN) or bachelor’s degree of nursing (BSN) or non-nursing bachelor’s degree with master’s degree of nursing (MSN) required
- ADN graduates with less than 5 years of acute care experience required to sign agreement to complete BSN or MSN within 3 years of hire
- Minimum of one (1) year of RN Staff Nurse experience required; acute care RN Staff Nurse experience preferred
- Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing in the State of Oregon
- BLS required
