Your role with us
As a speech therapist in Salem Health’s Inpatient Rehabilitation unit at our West Valley Hospital, you play a critical role in helping patients regain essential communication and swallowing abilities—skills that directly impact their independence, safety, and quality of life. Your work supports recovery from complex medical conditions through personalized, evidence-based care, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless, patient-centered treatment. This position is vital to optimizing outcomes, reducing hospital stays, and empowering patients and families during a vulnerable time in their healing journey.
What you’ll do
- Conduct comprehensive, evidence-based evaluations tailored to patient diagnoses and needs
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable, functional goals
- Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams (OT, PT, nursing, etc.)
- Document care accurately and timely to support skilled services and billing requirements
- Manage caseload efficiently and respond to department needs
- Coordinate care and discharge planning, addressing barriers and patient resources
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, licensure, and documentation standards
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development
- Provide exceptional patient experience through compassionate, clear communication
- Supervise and delegate tasks to clinical fellows and therapy aides as appropriate
Background/experience
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology/communication sciences and disorders is required.
- Clinical experience in the practice area is required. (This could be as a SLP, as a clinical fellow or as a clinical rotation student)
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is required.
- License to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the state of Oregon is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire is required.
