The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Physician provides comprehensive consultative and direct patient care for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies and complex maternal or fetal conditions. The physician collaborates with obstetricians, family medicine physicians, neonatologists, pediatric subspecialists, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes through evidence-based, patient-centered care. The MFM Physician serves as a regional resource for advanced obstetrical care, providing outpatient consultation, inpatient consultation services, diagnostic evaluation, fetal surveillance, and participation in multidisciplinary care planning. The position supports Salem Health's mission to improve the health and well-being of the people and communities we serve.

Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic

Located at Salem Hospital in Oregon’s capital city, the Maternal Fetal Medicine program offers a collaborative environment focused on providing advanced care for high-risk pregnancies. Physicians work alongside a multidisciplinary team of specialists and support staff dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes for mothers and babies. As a regional referral center, the practice provides the opportunity to care for complex cases while making a meaningful impact on patients and families throughout the community. What you'll do

Clinical Care

  • Provide consultation and co-management of patients with high-risk pregnancies.
  • Evaluate and manage maternal medical complications affecting pregnancy.
  • Assess and manage fetal conditions, congenital anomalies, and growth abnormalities.
  • Perform and interpret advanced obstetrical ultrasound examinations.
  • Provide fetal surveillance services including antenatal testing and fetal monitoring interpretation.
  • Collaborate with referring providers regarding treatment recommendations and ongoing management. 
  • Provide inpatient Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation for Labor &Delivery, Emergency Department, inpatient obstetric units, and other hospital services.
  • Participate in after-hours call coverage as assigned.

Procedures

  • Perform procedures within approved privileges and scope of practice, which may include:
  • Detailed obstetric ultrasound
  • Fetal anatomical assessment
  • Cervical length assessment
  • Amniocentesis
  • Chorionic villus sampling
  • Other MFM-specific procedures consistent with credentialing and competency

Required qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an accredited residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology residency.
  • Completion of an accredited Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Oregon (or ability to obtain).
  • Current, unrestricted DEA certificate.
  • Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Maternal Fetal Medicine through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), or eligibility with certification obtained within five years of residency/fellowship completion.
