This role sits at the intersection of healthcare operations, regulatory compliance, physician engagement, and process improvement, making it critical to both organizational success and patient safety.

You will oversee the day-to-day operations of Medical Staff Services, ensuring providers are credentialed, privileged, and reappointed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with complex regulatory, accreditation, and governance requirements. As the department's operational expert, you'll serve as a trusted resource for medical staff leaders, physicians, and organizational stakeholders, helping navigate complex situations, interpret standards, and manage risk.

This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative and service-oriented leader who enjoys solving complex problems, interpreting regulations, and improving systems. You'll lead a team of credentialing professionals, provide guidance on challenging operational issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles and structured problem-solving methodologies.

Success in this role requires a leader who combines strong operational discipline with humility, curiosity, and a commitment to partnership. The ideal candidate understands how to build trust, leverage the expertise of their team, and thoughtfully implement improvements that strengthen both processes and culture. You'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting providers, enhancing efficiency, improving compliance, and helping create an environment where teams can thrive.

If you are passionate about regulatory excellence, team development, and continuous improvement, this role offers the opportunity to lead a high-impact function that supports providers, strengthens patient safety, and contributes directly to organizational success.

What you'll do

  • Lead all Medical Staff Services operations related to credentialing, privileging, appointments, reappointments, temporary privileges, and provider enrollment activities.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of provider applications and credentialing workflows.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on credentialing standards, regulatory requirements, accreditation expectations, and medical staff governance.
  • Review complex credentialing matters and provide guidance regarding eligibility, privileges, adverse findings, and risk-related concerns.
  • Support professional practice evaluation processes and Medical Staff committee operations, including preparation, coordination, documentation, and follow-up activities.
  • Monitor provider data integrity, operational controls, and department performance metrics.
  • Identify operational risks, workload concerns, delays, and process gaps, implementing solutions to improve performance and compliance.
  • Escalate complex, high-risk, or noncompliant situations to appropriate leadership with well-developed recommendations.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate a team of Medical Staff Coordinators, Credentialing Specialists, Analysts, and other support staff.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, accountability standards, and professional development opportunities.
  • Manage departmental staffing, workload distribution, technology resources, budgets, and operational priorities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, respect, customer service, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the development, execution, and sustainment of departmental Lean initiatives and A3 strategies.
  • Use data, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies to improve processes, eliminate waste, and drive sustainable results.
  • Partner closely with physicians, medical staff leaders, executives, regulatory bodies, and organizational stakeholders to support operational excellence.
  • Ensure department readiness for audits, surveys, accreditation reviews, and regulatory assessments.

What we're looking for

  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory and accreditation requirements and the ability to interpret and apply complex standards within hospital operations.
  • Experience managing credentialing, privileging, medical staff services, compliance programs, quality initiatives, or related healthcare operations.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams through coaching, performance management, accountability, and professional development.
  • Ability to evaluate complex information, identify risks, make sound decisions, and manage competing priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience utilizing Lean principles, continuous improvement methodologies, A3 thinking, root cause analysis, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, executives, medical staff leaders, and operational teams.
  • A self-directed learning mindset with the ability to independently research, interpret, and apply regulatory requirements.
  • A leadership style grounded in humility, collaboration, curiosity, and service.
  • Ability to lead change thoughtfully, build trust with teams, and create an environment where employees feel valued, heard, and engaged.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to balance strategic priorities and daily operational demands.

Required qualifications
