Salem Health is seeking an APP to join our Pre-Anesthesia Testing (PAT) Clinic. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive preoperative medical assessments to optimize patients for anesthesia and surgical procedures. Working closely with anesthesiology, surgical teams, and clinic staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, coordinated, and efficient perioperative care. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, collaborative team in a newly developed clinic where you can help shape systems, strategy, and processes to enhance surgical optimization and patient safety.
Pre-Anesthesia Testing Clinic
Our Pre-Anesthesia Testing Clinic is dedicated to preparing patients for surgery through thorough medical evaluation, risk assessment, and education. By identifying and addressing potential risks before surgery, our team improves patient safety, reduces delays, and enhances surgical outcomes. The PAT Clinic works in close partnership with surgical specialties, anesthesia providers, and perioperative services to ensure patients receive timely, coordinated care.
What you'll do
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative histories and physical exams.
- Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, ECGs, imaging).
- Assess anesthesia and surgical risk and initiate optimization strategies.
- Provide preoperative education and medication instructions to patients and families.
- Coordinate with RNs, MAs, and consult with specialists as needed.
- Document all care accurately and timely in the EHR.
- Communicate with referring providers and procedural teams to ensure readiness for surgery.
- Support development of clinic protocols and quality improvement projects.
- Participate in daily huddles and collaborative care planning.
Required qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Associate program.
- Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination.
- Current Physician Associate license in good standing issued by the Oregon Medical Board.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association.
- DEA certification required.
Additional Information
- Minimum 1 year in preoperative, internal medicine, or hospital-based care preferred.
- Familiarity with ASA classifications and ACC/AHA perioperative guidelines preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean methodology preferred.

RN residency program
