Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide ongoing care for inpatients, ensuring consistent follow-up and timely management.
- Engage in treatment planning with an interdisciplinary team, contributing your expertise to holistic patient care.
- Educate patients and their families about symptoms and treatment options with clarity and empathy.
- Provide accurate and timely discharge instructions to outpatient providers and families, ensuring a smooth transition of care.
- Offer consultation services to Salem Hospital inpatients and emergency patients.
- Deliver call coverage to the Emergency Department and inpatient unit.
- Support physicians providing weekend coverage.
Education & Consultation:
- Participate in educational and quality improvement activities, including attending relevant meetings and organizational sessions.
- Educate medical staff, hospital staff, community members and the public on psychiatric assessment, treatment and related issues.
- Engage in continuing medical education to stay current with advancements in psychiatric care and maintain your privileges.
- Support hospital efforts to maintain a patient safety culture and reduce medical errors, demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
Quality & Outcomes:
- Achieve patient outcomes that consistently meet or exceed established standards, guided by comparative data, medical literature, and peer review.
- Provide patient services that adhere to evidence-based guidelines, ensuring the highest standard of care.
- Maintain thorough and accurate medical records in line with medical staff bylaws and rules, ensuring all documentation is timely.
- Address patient dissatisfaction proactively, responding in a timely and appropriate manner to enhance patient experiences.
Collaboration & Professionalism:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers, fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect.
- Manage patient care resources, including team members, according to service line standards, ensuring efficient and effective care delivery.

Background/Education:
Education:
- MD or DO degree from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy.
Experience:
- Provision of inpatient, outpatient, or consultative psychiatry services for at least 30 patients during the past 2 years, or substantive competent clinical psychiatry services during the past 2 years.
- Current unrestricted license as a physician in the State of Oregon.
- Current, valid, and unrestricted DEA certification.
- Current board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, or board eligible with board certification achieved within 5 years.
- Knowledge of Lean methodology preferred.
