Your Role With Us:
Palliative Care RN- BSN
The Palliative Care RN performs an accurate, ongoing, pertinent assessment for each assigned patient that is age appropriate.
Primary Functions:
- Reports/consults pertinent data to other health team members and implements appropriate action.
- Prioritizes care based on patient’s current needs.
- Proactive in preventing adverse outcomes. Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations.
- Initiates and/or reviews appropriate plan of care with patient/family to address holistic age-specific needs and reflect the patient’s changing condition.
- Develops a plan of treatment based on the patient’s rehabilitation potential, rehabilitation barriers, objective findings, cultural, social, medical and developmental backgrounds.
- Plans for the transfer/discharge of the patient to the next appropriate level of care in the continuum and is proactive in working with other members of the health care team and/or family as appropriate.
- Consistently documents the assessment, planning, interventions and patient responses in a way that accurately reflects the patient’s care and progress.

Background/Expertise:
Education: | Experienced RNs (Internal/External): · BSN or non-nursing Bachelor’s Degree with MSN for all external applicants for Salem Hospital, preferred for West Valley Hospital. · ADN graduate with less than 5 years of acute care experience required to sign agreement to complete BSN or MSN within 3 years of hire. · For internal applicants preference may be given to applicant with BSN. · Note: For employees who were hired as an ADN prior to October 2011, there is no requirement to obtain BSN. New Grad RNs (External): · BSN or MSN. · ADN graduate with less than 5 years of acute care experience required to sign agreement to complete BSN or MSN within three (3) years of hire. New Grads (Existing Employees): · BSN or MSN. · ADN graduate with less than 5 years of acute care experience required to sign agreement to complete BSN or MSN within three (3) years. |
Experience: | · Minimum of one (1) year of RN Staff Nurse experience required, acute care RN Staff Nurse experience preferred. · For candidates with less than one (1) year, see New Grad requirements. |
Licenses/ Certification/ Registration: | · Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon. Certified Hospice and Palliative RN- within 2 years of hire · BLS required at time of hire. · PMC – BLS within 30 days of hire · ACLS is required for ICU & CVCU. |
Special knowledge, skills, & abilities: | · Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical skills. · Ability to work effectively under pressure and to use professional judgment in emergency situations. |
